Maliampurackal Chacko Punnoose, known as Navodaya Appachan (born 1924 in Alleppey, Travancore) is an Indian film producer, director, and entrepreneur. He is mainly involved in Malayalam cinema.
Appachan is a director and producer of films from Kerala. Movies that he has produced include Manjil Virinja Pookkal and My Dear Kuttichathan. The latter was the first 3D movie made in India and released as Chota Chetan in Hindi. He is the founder of Navodaya Studio. He was also a creator of Bible Ki Kahaniyan on Doordarshan.
His early involvement with the film industry was with his brother Kunchako at Udaya Studio. The first cinemascope film in Malayalam was directed by him, and the first 70mm Indian movie, Padayottam, was produced by him. He also founded Kishkinta, India's first theme park, in Chennai.
Appachan studied in Pulinkunnu, Mannanam and St. Xavier's College in Palayamkottai. He is married to Baby and they have two sons and two daughters.
